According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2023, the net migration for Virginia was 36,770. Chesterfield County had the highest net migration (5,057) followed by Spotsylvania County (2,512), and Suffolk city (2,088). On the other hand, Virginia Beach city had the lowest net migration (-2,453), followed by Norfolk city (-2,298), and Newport News city (-1,438).
Net migration for a county refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the county and those leaving the county. Or to put it simply, the net migration for a given county is the inbound migration minus the outbound migration for that county.
