On 10/16/2024 @ 10:52am During Slaughter While IIC was observing the stunning of a beef cow. The operator placed the cow in the restraint to be stunned with rifle. The rifle was fired & the animal did not go down, no vocalization was coming from the animal or signs of agitation. Stun operator immediately placed another bullet in the rifle & fired a second shot efficiently stunning the animal and rendering it unconscious. IPP notified plant management of NR & verified the 2 bullet entries on the beef head. Regulation Cited: 313.16(a)(1): Immediate unconsciousness (gunshot)

Non-Compliance Description:

On 10/2/24 at 2:40PM, IIC observed the following noncompliance during routine slaughter of cattle while performing stunning verification. The first shot with the captive bolt did not render the cow unconscious. The cow remained standing and vocalized. The stunner took immediate corrective action by using a rifle to apply a second shot. This shot successfully rendered the cow unconscious. This is noncompliant with 9 CFR 313.15 (a) (1). Plant management was notified of the noncompliance. Two bullet holes were confirmed on postmortem inspection.
