Cracking Welds may Result in Trailer Separation

Wilson Trailer Company (Wilson) is recalling certain model year 2006-2015 Grain trailers manufactured January 1, 2006, to March 31, 2015. In the the affected trailers, the welds that attach the bolster plate to the pickup plate around the kingpin may fail. Failure of these welds may result in the kingpin separating from the pickup plate.

Consequence Summary:
If the kingpin separates from the pickup plate, the trailer could detach from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action:
Wilson will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the aluminum kingpin assemblies for cracked or failed welds, repairing them as necessary. Additionally, a new forged steel kingpin will be installed with supplemental fasteners. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on July 29, 2015.
