According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2023, the death rate for the United States was 9.4. West Virginia had the highest death rate (14.62), followed by Maine (12.23), and Mississippi (12.16). On the other hand, Utah had the lowest death rate (6.2), followed by District of Columbia (7.38), and Alaska (7.61).

Death Rate refers to the average annual number of deaths during a year per 1,000 population at midyear.
