Hinge Cracks may cause Hopper Detachment

Johnston North America (Johnston) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 VT651 and VT801 street sweepers manufactured May 1, 2013, to October 13, 2016. The affected street sweepers have tipping hinges that may crack, allowing the hopper to detach from the chassis.

Consequence Summary:
If the hopper detaches, it can increase the risk of injury to those nearby.
Corrective Action:
Johnston will notify owners, and dealers will install a reaction beam to increase the torsional stiffness of the body and stabilize the tipping pivot brackets, free of charge. The recall began on November 4, 2016. Owners may contact Johnston customer service at 1-704-658-1333.
