Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2020, there were 64,279 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in West Virginia and they represented 3.59% of the total population of West Virginia in 2020. Kanawha County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (13,507), followed by Berkeley County (9,263), and Raleigh County (5,718). On the other hand, Calhoun County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (26), followed by Wirt County (30), and Tyler County (30).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Gilmer County had the highest percentage (12.79%), followed by McDowell County (9.61%), and Raleigh County (7.69%).
