Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2017, the Black or African American Alone population in South Carolina was 1,372,490 and represented 27.30% of the total South Carolina population (5,027,102).

Among South Carolina counties, Richland County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (197,864), followed by Charleston County (109,635), and Greenville County (93,550). McCormick County had the lowest (4,418).
