United States Hate Crime Offenses By Crime Type in 2008

According to the FBI UCR data, in 2008, there were 10,151 Hate Crime Offenses in the US. Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property was the highest type of hate crime committed (3,392), and constituted 33.42% of the total number of offenses. The second highest hate crime offense committed was Intimidation (2,852), constituting 28.10% of the total. The third highest hate crime offense commited was Simple Assault (1,915), constituting 18.86% of the total.

NB: Hate Crimes are criminal offenses that were motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender's bias against the victim's race/ethnicity/ancestry, gender, gender identity, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, and were committed against persons, property, or society.
