United States Hate Crime Offenses By Crime Type in 1996
According to the FBI UCR data, in 1996, there were 11,481 Hate Crime Offenses in the US. Intimidation was the highest type of hate crime committed (4,259), and constituted 37.10% of the total number of offenses. The second highest hate crime offense committed was Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property (3,170), constituting 27.61% of the total. The third highest hate crime offense commited was Simple Assault (1,887), constituting 16.44% of the total.
