California Number and Percentage of Households that Received Food Stamps or SNAP By Race and Ethnicity in 2021 (ACS-5Yrs)

Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, 1,259,489 out of 13,217,586 California households received Food Stamps or SNAP in the last 12 months (i.e. 9.53% of California households).

By Race: As a percentage of the total number of households that received SNAP or Food Stamps, the White Alone racial group constituted 46.46%; the Some Other Race Alone racial group constituted 19.11%, and the Black Alone racial group constituted 11.62%.

By Ethnicity: As a percentage of the total number of households that received Food Stamps or SNAP, the Non-Hispanic White Alone ethnicity group constituted 27.45%, and the Hispanic or Latino of All Races ethnicity group constituted 47.48%.

Percentage of Each Racial Group's Households that Received SNAP: 7.54% of White Alone households received Food Stamps or SNAP; 15.83% of Some Other Race Alone households received SNAP; and 18.14% of Black Alone households received SNAP.
