Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of households in Massachusetts with household income of less than $40k was 24.09%. Among all Massachusetts counties, Hampden County had the highest percentage of households with household income of less than $40k (34.63%), followed by Berkshire County (32.68%), and Suffolk County (30.13%).

On the other hand, the following 3 counties had low percentages of households with household income of less than $40k: Nantucket County (16.94%), Norfolk County (17.47%), and Middlesex County (18.27%).
