Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the number of employed US civilians (16 years and over) who were employed as Chief executives was 1,399,098 (i.e. 0.89% of all civilian employees). Among those employed as Chief executives, 73.38% were Males, and 26.62% were Females.

The median earnings for all Chief executives was $155,172, which was 65.67% higher than the median earnings for all US civilian employees. The median earnings of Female Chief executives was 29.08% less than that of their male counterparts.
